Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech open for a return to Ajax

About Football Express UK

Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech has admitted that he is open to returning to Ajax at any point in his career before he retires. The Blues signed him from Ajax last season for £40 million.

Since then he has rather struggled because of injuries and competition. In the 2020/21 season, he only started 15 times. Even in the current season he has faced the same issues and has scored one goal in 8 matches.

Ziyech even told Ziggo Sport that

‘It is a place where I have felt at home, and whether it will ever happen, the future will tell. If it is up to me, it will definitely happen,”

As of now, there has been no contact between the two clubs but if there are negotiations, Ziyech will be keen to rejoin Ajax.

What’s going wrong for Ziyech at Chelsea?

Hakim Ziyech had a bad debut season with The Blues but then he showed great determination and performances in the pre-season. He scored 5 goals in the pre-season but soon later he faced a shoulder injury against Villarreal in the Super Cup. Ever since then Ziyech has struggled to perform consistently.

Despite scoring the winner against Malmo in the Champions League last month, he has admitted himself that he is struggling. After the match, he stated that “I know what I can do and what my highest level is. I had some hard times with injuries and finding my rhythm again. I’ve never been able to get in rhythm again. I have to work hard every day trying to find that rhythm again.”

Chelsea is a team with not only world-class starting XI players but also world-class backup players as well. They have immense squad depth and Tuchel definitely enjoys the wealth of attacking options.

Though Pulisic has faced many injuries when summating all players up, Ziyech is quite down the pecking order. At times Tuchel has dropped Ziyech for Ross Barkley as well. It is quite impossible for Tuchel to play all players for 90 minutes.

Mason Mount has returned from illness as well and has cemented his position in the starting XI. Hudson Odoi on the other hand was struggling last season as well but then he stepped up recently. Timo Werner is also finding his goalscoring form and with Chelsea, he plays in a different role. Often playing as a winger and creating chances using his pace.

It is difficult for Hakim to work his way up the ladder but only time will tell how things unravel.
