Reports indicate that Malang Sarr, a sidelined Chelsea player, doesn’t even have his locker in the first-team training building. Despite nearing a departure in January, a last-minute transfer to Le Havre fell through. Thus, reflecting his disappointing tenure at Stamford Bridge thus far.

In 2020, Chelsea secured the signing of Sarr as a free agent from Nice, successfully outbidding other interested parties for a five-year deal. Despite being highly regarded across Europe, the center-back has been facing challenges since joining the Blues.

Sarr has had limited opportunities since arriving in England, appearing only eight times for Chelsea. Loan moves have not aided his career revival, and his prospects with the Blues appear grim in the coming months.

Last season, the 25-year-old was on a loan to Monaco with an option to buy but struggled to make an impact in Ligue 1 due to a muscular abdominal injury. Consequently, Monaco decided against activating his £12.6 million buyout clause.

Sarr is completely out of picture in Chelsea setup

As reported by The Athletic, Sarr had a surgery for the injury in May and participated in some of Chelsea’s pre-season training. However, he was not part of Chelsea team that traveled to the United States. Instead, he trained with the Under-21 squad and remains there currently.

Consequently, he was not part of Chelsea’s official Premier League squad and has relinquished his locker in the first-team building. Thus, now fully assimilated into the Under-21 system.

Reportedly, Chelsea sources suggest Sarr’s lack of presence from the Under-21s is due to his reluctance to be a part. However, individuals close to the player asserting that he opted out while recuperating from surgery but is now ready to participate, being fully steady.
