Chelsea faces Nice competition for Cesare Casadei

About Football Express UK

Italian wonderkid Cesare Casadei has long been a target of the Blues. However, they will now face stiff competition from OGC Nice, who look to add the 19-year-old to their ranks.

Despite Inter Milan‘s reluctance to part ways with the youngster, he is yet to make a proper senior debut. In spite of this, the teenage midfielder is widely considered one of the brightest young prospects in Italy. Chelsea have submitted two bids already, however, Inter are holding out for a fee of around £20m. The Italian club also wishes to add a buy-back clause, to have the option of signing him back from Chelsea in a few years. Chelsea however, is reluctant to add such a clause, as they consider Casadei a key part of future plans.

Would Nice be the better option for Cesare Casadei?

French Club OGC Nice are undergoing a difficult period of transition. After Christophe Galtier’s departure for Paris Saint-German, Swiss coach Lucien Favre returns as Head Coach. The French Side looks eager to challenge for a top-three spot and are ready to go far in the Europa League.

Kasper Schmeichel and Aaron Ramsey are just a few of the names who have joined them recently. Favre seems to have identified Casadei as a key player in his future plans, and they hope that a buy-back clause can be negotiated with Inter.

In contrast, Thomas Tuchel has plenty of options in his midfield currently. The arrival of Conor Gallagher and Carney Chukwuemaka have boosted his numbers compared to last season, but he would be looking to lower the average age of his midfield. Missing Casadei may prove problematic, especially if Jorginho and N’Golo Kante choose not to extend their contracts past 2023.
