Everton FC is looking to add defensive strength to their squad as they are trying to bring in Malang Sarr. The Toffees are trying to bring in the Chelsea defender on a loan deal before the transfer window closes.
Malang Sarr is one of the players that Everton is targeting to bring in by the end of January. Reports coming from Foot Mercato suggests that Everton pushing hard for a loan deal.
Apart from Everton, other Premier League sides like Leicester City, West Ham United and Newcastle United are monitoring the 22-year-old. However, Chelsea might not be ready to let Malang Sarr leave in January considering their squad situation.
UNABLE TO BREAK IN
It has been hard for Malang Sarr to break into the Chelsea team. The French U21 star made his move to Stamford Bridge back in the summer of 2020 from OGC Nice. He was immediately let go on loan to FC Porto in Portugal.
His time in Portugal was not fruitful as expected as he was moved to their B team. At the beginning of the season, Malang Sarr returned to Chelsea but was not able to impress manager Thomas Tuchel.
Currently, Sarr has only made 9 appearances for Chelsea this season, with only 2 of them coming in the league. This is despite the Blues having issues in the defensive department with injuries and covid-19.
Malang Sarr was a regular for Nice in the Ligue 1 and not getting enough playing time is a cause for concern. However, the player has a contract with Chelsea till 2025 and he won’t be cheap. Hence a loan move looks like the most likely option for the player to get some playing time.
EVERTON PUSHING FOR MALANG SARR LOAN DEAL
Everton is pushing for a loan move for Malang Sarr. The club is undergoing a tough season, with just 19 points from their 19 matches in the league. Things behind the scene are also not good with the latest news being the sacking of manager Rafa Benitez.
The club however has been active in the transfer market, bringing in the likes of Nathan Patterson and Vitaliy Mykolenko permanently and Anwar El Ghazi on a loan deal. However, Everton is now looking for a centre-back to tighten their defence.
While it is still not sure if Everton can convince Chelsea to let Malang Sarr leave on loan. The recent corona outbreak tested the squad depth of all the teams in the Premier League. Because Chelsea is still fighting for multiple trophies this season, parting ways with Sarr might not be a good business.
