Chelsea are on the verge of signing a Shot-Stopper

Chelsea Stadium

Filip Jorgensen is likely to sign for Chelsea this weekend, as the changing dynamic of the club’s goalkeeping situation continues.

The reports from Spain yesterday were that Chelsea’s interest in a player plus cash swap which rids them of Kepa Arrizabalaga. It brings in Andriy Lunin held that that move would happen regardless of this one – but they simply can’t see it happening, unless something truly unbelievable occurs like them signing Lunin only to then loan him out was to take place. Although Premier League rivals Liverpool may look to hijack that move.

Another Blues stopper, Robert Sanchez, 26, has been the subject of transfer speculation, too. The former Brighton star proving to be inconsistent since his move from the south coast last year.

Despite that, the 26-year-old insists he is the right man to be manager Enzo Maresca’s number one at the west London outfit.

Jorgensen’s background check!

Jorgensen is a dependable shot blocker, to start. Despite this, he only managed six clean sheets and gave up 65 goals in the 2023–2024 season. Without Jorgensen in goal, Villarreal would have conceded a lot more goals; in the season, the goalie made a league-high 143 saves.

In addition to his skill between the posts, Jorgensen is a superb goalie who can play with the ball.

Villarreal relied heavily on the 22-year-old’s passing range during the 2023–24 season. With his club side, he completed almost 1,000 passes at an average of 44.7 successful passes every 90 minutes.

Considering the possession-based style of play new manager Enzo Maresca wants to implement. Jorgensen could be the perfect signing to allow Chelsea to play out from the back.

Jorgensen won the starting berth at Villarreal ahead of the 2023/24 season after making his way up to the first team squad from the B team.

Since then, he hasn’t really looked back.

As was already said, Jorgensen’s passing and shot-stopping skills were crucial to the Yellow Submarine’s success during the previous campaign, which saw them position a respectable seventh in La Liga.

At the end of the season, he earned himself a new five-year contract with the club because of his excellent play.

Chelsea supporters will be happy to hear that Ederson has the passing range and talent because the team does not currently have a ball-playing goalkeeper on the roster.

The manner in which he makes many of his saves – one handed and potentially with the cameras in mind. It reminds us a bit of David De Gea too.

The Blues current situation in the goal

Asked to comment on Chelsea’s goalkeeping situation after a friendly with Wrexham on Tuesday evening, Maresca told reporters: “What I can say is Robert did very well tonight and did very well since we started. For sure, the way we want to play, the goalkeeper is very, very important – one of the main positions. And I don’t want to talk about players that are not Chelsea players but I am very happy with Robert.

“We’ll see, we’ll see. In this moment we have four goalkeepers. Petrovic is still with us but injured. We will see with the timing. When the transfer window is open, anything can happen for us and for the rest.”

Leicester City shot-stopper Mads Hermansen has also linked with the club after starring in Leicester City’s Championship-winning side last season under the Italian. Though a deal for the Dane is expected to prove more problematic to finalize due to the Foxes’ high demands.

The Blues also have decisions to make over the futures of Kepa Arrizabalaga, who spent last season on loan at Real Madrid. They are also looking at last year’s summer purchase from New England Revolution, Djordje Petrovic.
