Chelsea defender Rudiger to quadruple his wages if he leaves

About Football Express UK

Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger could be set to quadruple his wages if he leaves the club next summer. Rudiger’s contract with the club will expire at the end of this season and unfortunately, renegotiation talks have not progressed much.

Real Madrid are the frontrunners to sign him with PSG, Juventus and Bayern monitoring the situation as well.

According to a report from The Daily Mail, the clubs interested in him can open talks for a free transfer from January 1st. Those clubs can make him the highest-paid defender in the world.

As of now Matthijs De Ligt currently holds the title of the highest-paid defender. He earns £400000k a week at Juventus whereas Rudiger earns £100000k a week at Chelsea. The report states that Antonio will earn around or more than De Ligt’s wages if he opts for a deal elsewhere.

Antonio Rudiger is a key player for Chelsea. This season and especially last season as well he has proven his defensive abilities to be one of the best.

How will Chelsea fare without Rudiger if he leaves?

The Blues have one of the best squad depths in the world. Despite them being sloppy in recent matches and dropping points, nothing changes the fact that they have excellent defenders in the squad.

If Rudiger will leave for any other club, Chelsea have an in-form Thiago Silva, Chalobah, Christensen with them. Though they will look to get at least one more defender to increase their squad depth. These three alone are enough to keep the backline running.

Thiago Silva who has been quite underrated throughout his career had a bad debut at Chelsea. But ever since then he has picked up the pace and from being a reliable backup for Tuchel, he is now his first-choice defender.

Trevoh Chalobah is a Chelsea academy graduate who has been with the club ever since he was a child. Tuchel decided to start with him in the last season against Crystal Palace. A match in which the youngster not only scored a goal but also proved his defensive prowess.

Andreas Christensen, just like Rudiger, has had contract renewal issues with the club. If he is to stay then he will definitely start for Thomas since he is also a great defender as well.

Though Rudiger is a key player for Chelsea, The Blues are targeting Sevilla defender Jules Kounde as well.
