Brendan Rodgers Rules Out James Maddison Transfer to Arsenal

Arsenal Team

Arsenal is interested in signing James Maddison but now it might not come real. This comes after Brendan Rogers rules out the chances of James Maddison leaving Leicester City.

In a recent interview, Brendan Rogers, the Leicester City Manager stated

In conversations with the club, we don’t have to sell. That’s something that’s been made clear.”

“The players want to stay. It’s a really exciting time at the club. There’s lots of gossip and speculation around but I’m loving working with the guys here, they love being here, and we certainly have no need to sell. So, I would suspect we’re looking to keep our best players.

Last Season James Maddison played 31 games scoring 8 and assisting 5 goals. The 24-year-old playmaker has been reported on the radar of Arsenal. It has been reported that the club was ready to spend €65 on the player. Current with Leicester being in the Europa League and Arsenal not being in the European tournaments, the transfer would feel rather different. Currently valued at £49.50m by Transfermarkt having renewed his contract last year till 2024.

Why Does Arsenal Have An Interest In Signing James Maddison?

Currently, Arsenal has just one Central attacking Midfielder, Emile Smith Rowe and lack squad depth. The other midfielders in the club are either Number 6 or Number 8’s. Due to this, seen last season when Emile was injured, the club didn’t have a creative hub and lacked a lot of creativity. Thus, last season the loan of Martin Ødegaard helped the club immensely helping them secure the 8th position in the league. With James Maddison at Arsenal, the club can avoid the above-stated dilemma.

While having experience in the Premier League is a bonus, James Maddison is a prolific Centre attacking midfielder. With Arsenal’s focus on signing multiple English players like Ben white and Ramsdale. James Maddison also looks to be a part of an English core being formed at the club.

If Arsenal wishes to get into the European league spots this season, they might sign a player like James Maddison. They will also need to sign another Central Midfielder as well as a right-back.
