Benfica set Darwin Nunez’s transfer price at £100 million

About Football Express UK

The Mirror have reported that Benfica have told Premier League giants Manchester United that they would accept a fee close to £100 million for Darwin Nunez in the summer transfer window.

Manchester United are at the start of yet another rebuild in the summer. New manager Erik ten Hag is looking to add a new striker, a new midfielder, and a new centre-half in the summer transfer window. The Dutch manager is set to target a midfielder first. But the club will no doubt sign a new young striker.

Interim manager Ralf Rangnick has assured that the club should sign at least two new modern strikers in the summer. Talking about the striker situation at the club, Ralf Rangnick said:

“Cristiano isn’t a central striker or does not want to play in that position,” “It’s obvious the club needs at least two new strikers who give this team more quality and more options. I wouldn’t even call it wingers.”

“Two strikers and modern strikers, that do not necessarily have to be wingers. If you look into international football, there aren’t many top teams who still play with two strikers. Most play with either three strikers or a false nine.”

Is Darwin Nunez the perfect striker for Manchester United?

Darwin Nunez has been on fire this season in front of the goal. The 22-year-old striker has made a total of 41 appearances across all competitions this term. In this time he has recorded an impressive 34 goals and four assists. (stats via Transfermakrt)

The Uruguayan striker has shown real potential, especially in the Champions League this term. He scored home and away against Liverpool in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. While he scored against Spanish giants Barcelona.

Alongside Manchester United, fellow Premier League sides Newcastle United and Arsenal are also scouting the Uruguayan striker. Manchester United are looking to swap out favor French striker Antony Martial in a deal for Darwin Nunez. Antony Martial is currently on loan with the Spanish side Sevilla. But the loan move has not worked out at all.

Dutch star defender Virgil Van Dijk was also high on praise for Darwin Nunez in a recent interview with Rio Ferdinand. Talking about Darwin Nunez, Virgil van Dijk said:

“The name of Haaland, and also Darwin, he’s a bit similar, very direct, quick, tall, strong, and its quite difficult to play against those guys.”
