Benfica officially states that Darwin Nunez is moving to Liverpool. Moreover, the price stated is 75 million euros/ 64.5 million pounds. The transfer has been agreed and the deal is done. Many of the top clubs in Europe have been after Nunez’s signature. He scored 34 goals in 41 games this season. He is also the top scorer at Benfica.
Benfica removes all doubt about Nunez
He has been the in-form striker for Benfica this season. He has scored 26 goals in 28 games in the Portuguese league. Moreover, he won the Golden Boot award by a margin of six goals. Furthermore, he also scored six goals in ten games in the Champions League. Thus he played a massive role in pushing Benfica up to the quarter-final stage where they were eventually knocked out. They were knocked out by Liverpool. Also, Nunez scored against Liverpool in the home game as well as the away game.
Many teams such as Manchester United, Paris Saint Germain, Manchester City, and ever Liverpool were interested. However, Liverpool was the team to finally win the race for the striker. Many teams have got ace strikers and Liverpool have just reinforced their front line with the signing of Darwin Nunez. Manchester City have bought Erling Braut Haaland and Jose Alverez while Paris Saint Germain tied down Mbappe to a new deal. The race was really between Manchester United and Liverpool and it was Liverpool who finally won the race. Their fast-moving and efficient transfer team have been able to bring the player in.
A statement by Benfica on Monday morning stated that Darwin Nunez was signed by Liverpool for a fee totaling up to 85 million pounds. That is subject to if the add-on clauses are all fulfilled successfully. There is also an assumption that his contract term is for six years.
In total Nunez has scored 47 goals and picked up 16 assists in 84 games played for the club. This is ever since he arrived from Almeira in 2020.
All in all, this is a superb deal done by Liverpool and the player is sure to have a beneficial season under Jurgen Klopp.
