Barcelona are eyeing Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte. Barcelona have been targeting a new central defender for some time now. They have also shown their interest in signing Jules Kounde from Sevilla.
Barcelona have had their struggles in the defensive department for a while now. Their defense has failed them for a couple of years now which started with the defeat to Roma in the UCL. Ever since that defeat, The defense has failed them at important matches. In fact, Barcelona are a shadow of their former past as the team that had the likes of Puyol, Mascherano in their ranks have degraded.
Times have changed significantly and Barcelona are no longer a giant in world football. Although Barcelona had some semblance hope until last season when Lionel Messi had to leave the club. The great man leaving the club has hurt Barcelona more than their failures at the top level in recent years.
Barcelona are trying to find their path and hope to return to their former glory. Legendary midfielder Xavi is the manager of Barcelona and has been able to show some glimpses of Prime Barcelona through his vision. Although he has a long way to go until the club is at the top.
Barcelona defender Replacement for Kounde
Xavi has understood that Barcelona has to increase their defensive depth and add more firepower to their defense. Barcelona had targeted Jules Kounde from Sevilla as the perfect player who could add to their defense. Moreover Kounde is young and has a long way to go, Barcelona are hoping to get Kounde to lead their defense in the near future.
However Barcelona have kept their eye on Aymeric Laporte from City if the Kounde deal does not come into fruition. Laporte is a more experienced than Kounde and has the silverware to prove it, Although the 28 year old has become injury prone in recent times. Nevertheless the Spaniard remains a top player.
