Chelsea are looking to make a bid this winter transfer for Aston Villa sensation Douglas Luiz as Graham Potter is keen to sign.
The Blues are set to compete with Arsenal who are also in the mix to sign Luiz from Aston Villa in the forthcoming window. It is understood that the Villa Park player has displayed impressive performances on the pitch and is wanted by clubs.
Arsenal had previously tried to make a transfer possible for the 24-year-old in the summer only to be rejected. The gunners made three bids in total as Mikel Arteta was determined to bolster the squad further to compete.
Chelsea want to sign Aston Villa sensation
The West London club are now the clear frontrunners to sign the 24-year-old as Arsenal have been handed a blow. Luiz will see his contract with Villa end during the conclusion of this season and has to decide his future.
Moreover, with the interests emerging from Chelsea and Arsenal, the player could be tempted to leave Villa Park next season. However, manager Steven Gerrard considers the youngster a vital part of his squad and wants him to stay.
“I’ve got confidence that he’ll understand the situation and the club’s decision.
“We didn’t want to lose a very important player and a top player so late in the window,”
“From a personal point of view, I very much back the club’s stance on that I spoke to him face-to-face yesterday and he understood where we were at and the position the club was in.
He very much respects the decision so hopefully it will calm down in the hours and days to follow and he’ll be fine moving forward.”
It will be interesting to see if Luiz makes a move away from Villa to join Graham Potter’s Chelsea.
