Barkley spent most of the 2020-21 season at Villa Park and is looking to rejoin Aston Villa. Barkley score 3 times and assisted once in 24 appearances for Aston Villa in that season. There were rumors Villa were trying to get the player permanently however they were unable to finalize a deal. However this time around, Chelsea have given the opportunity to Villa.
Chelsea are under a minor rebuild this Summer as they are bringing in new players. However, the addition of new players would mean, Chelsea have to restructure their wage bill. The Blues want to offload certain players and Ross Barkley is one of them. Barkley has a year left in his contract and Chelsea have no intention of extending his contract. Chelsea aims to get some compensation as they try to sell him this window rather than allowing him to leave for free.
Villa does not require Barkley
Barkley did not have the best out of times at Villa, Though it was decent, to say the least. However, regardless of Barkley’s performance, Villa does not need the midfielder. Villa already have Philippe Coutinho and Emiliano Buendia at their disposal. Villa does not need the player however Villa CEO Christian Purslow is a big fan of the midfielder and intends to bring the player to Villa Park soon.
Barkley could move on to Everton, His former club where he made his name. In fact, it was at his time at Everton that made Harry Redknapp call him a “Complete Player“.
“He’s fantastic. Top class and one the most exciting players in the Premier League for me. Barkley has everything. Great ability, good physique, strong, and runs with the ball. He is a real top young player.”
