Aston Villa are identifying the replacements for defender Diego Carlos, who is currently injured after enduring a ruptured Achilles during the victory against Everton.
Steven Gerrard managed Villa earned three points after a 2-1 win over Everton in their second fixture during the weekend. However, in the midst of the game, 29-year-old Diego Carlos suffered a rupture that will keep him away for a while.
The Midlands gaffer has turned to the market for suitable options to bring in a player as a replacement. Calum Chambers has been identified as one of the players who can take over the defence with ease at Villa.
Aston Villa to find replacement
While the Villa gaffer will miss his main man in the back line, Gerrard will be optimistic to find a decent replacement. However, within the squad, Chambers could be the man Gerrard may rely on in the defensive cover.
Within minutes of coming on to the pitch, Chambers made a goal and contributed to making a goal-saving tackle. Certainly, the Villa boss could give him more chances in the defence for the rest of the season.
However, Villa have also identified Marseille defender Duje Caleta-Car as another viable option in the back line this summer. It is understood that the player is worth roughly around £8 million if the transfer were to happen.
Gerrard could cash in on Caleta-Car as he has impressive numbers being a defender and has levels to show.
The Villa Park club have already made first contact with the Ligue 1 outfit for the possible transfer this summer. The club have received the green light and could land him at the club very soon.
