Aston Villa gets an edge as Crystal Palace falls out of the race to sign this star

About Football Express UK

Crystal Palace manager has spelled out that they would not be able to sign Conor Gallagher this season. This is thought to have given an edge to Aston Villa. The Chelsea loanee had an impressive season with the Eagles last term.

He featured in 39 games, scoring eight goals and providing five assists. He turned out to be an essential player for Viera in that term. His exploits at Selhurst Park led him to his maiden call-up from the English national team.

He even scored in just his second appearance for England where England won the match 2-1 against Switzerland back in March. Villa had their links with the 22-year-old for quite some time now. Moreover, Steven Gerrard is eager to add another option to his midfield before the transfer window closes.

Gallagher is presently on a tour in the USA with Chelsea where he looks to have a positive impression on Thomas Tuchel. Moreover, the English international has voiced his wish to stay at Stamford Bridge in the present campaign. However, if he cannot win the faith of Tuchel he would have interest from many teams including Aston Villa.

What did Crystal Palace head coach have to say about the situation with Gallagher?

Football.london quoted Viera saying,” At the moment I don’t think there is any chance because he is a Chelsea player.”

He did fantastically well for us, but he is in pre-season with Chelsea and honestly we wish him all the best. I don’t think there is a way to get him back.

If Chelsea have any intention to squeeze in any cash from the sale of Gallagher, they would be hoping to receive a fee of around £ 30 million. Gerrard has already signed a new midfielder this season in Boubacar Kamara. However, the Liverpool legend still wants to sign a new player in this transfer window.
