Aston Villa to raid Scottish clubs for their academy
Villa have recently seen a lot of talent coming out of their academy. The latest star is 21-year-old Jacob Ramsey who debuted in 2019 and has since played a massive 63 games in all competitions for the Villans. The club wants to keep developing their youth ranks and have now targeted Rory Wilson and Ewan Simpson to add to it.
The 16-year-old Wilson has netted a whopping 49 goals for Rangers’ various youth teams last season. Therefore there is no surprise that the striker has made the list of Villa. Wilson is all set to leave the Scottish giants and join Villa in the coming weeks. The deal will see Villa pay £350,000 to Rangers for Wilson’s acquisition for their academy.
On the other hand, Hearts midfielder Ewan Simpson is another star wanted by Villa for their academy. Preece has said that there is ‘A lot of excitement over Wilson & Simpson’ as Villa will reportedly announce their deals in the coming days. Hearts will receive £250,000 from Aston Villa for Simpson.
Villa have readied their plans for Wilson and Simpson after their moves are made official. Since Wilson is already 16, and Simpson turns 16 next month Villa plan to register the duo with their under-18s. Furthermore, Villa expects their new academy players to develop and pave their way into the club’s under-23 setup.
Villa’s academy has been supplying them with enormous talent over the last few years. Tim Iroegbunam was the latest to make a leap from under-18s to the first-team, playing 3 Premier League games last season. Similarly, Jacob Ramsey is another star in the making who came through the club’s academy in 2019. It now remains to be seen who is next in line from the Villa academy.
