Arsenal to lock horns with Serie A winners over Marco Asensio transfer

Asensio

Arsenal are preparing a transfer move for Real Madrid star Marco Asensio ahead of the next season.

Prior to the transfer links, Asensio had made it clear to stay with the Los Blancos but would not renew unless a better offer was presented by the club. With the winger’s contract expiring in 2023, the player is set to make a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

The Spaniard relished a great campaign under Carlo Ancelotti, winning the Champions League, Spanish League, and the Spanish Super Cup. The Galacticos manager termed Asensio as ‘extraordinary’ and has played a vital role in the team.

Arsenal are frontrunners for the Spaniard

In 42 appearances, Asensio amassed 12 goals and provided two assists during his stint with Madrid this season. Surely, Arsenal would be delighted to have him at the Emirates stadium in their next campaign.

Moreover, the Gunners have dealt with the European Champions in terms of player transfers. Dani Ceballos and Martin Odegaard were part of the transfers by the two clubs and now Asensio could join the list.

The Gunners boss Mikel Arteta could use a player of such quality in his squad. Under Arteta, Asensio can add threat on the flanks and play a winger’s role and as a midfielder. While Arsenal might have lost their Champions League spot, Arteta appears to build a competitive team for the next season.

With Asensio put on the transfer market by his agent Jorge Mendes, many elite clubs have been alerted. AC Milan and Liverpool are among the clubs interested in the player’s transfer. However, Arsenal seems to be ahead of the race to secure his signature for the transfer.

With the inclusion of Asensio in the squad, Arsenal could very well compete for titles next season. That said, it remains to be seen if a move to the Emirates is facilitated this summer.
