As the Premier League games count down and the final table draws nearer, Arsenal are doing everything they can to finish within the top four. And the Arsenal players are set to receive bonuses if the club manage to do so.
The Gunners are desperate for Champions League football next season. They haven’t featured in the competition since 2016-17 and are giving it their all to be in it next season.
ARSENAL’S ROAD TO GLORY
Beating Watford 3-2 last time out moved the Gunners into the automatic Champions League spots. They managed to reach it for the first time in two months. And they held the position after Manchester United lost to Manchester City at the Etihad.
At the start of the season no one backed the Gunners to be in this position. The London club lost their first four Premier League matches, including one to newly promoted Brentford. The scenario has completely changed, thanks to coach Mikel Arteta and his brand of football.
Qualification to the Champions League not only ensures money but also affects the quality of players that Arsenal can lure next season. Everyone wants to play in Europe’s most elite cup competition and it would be a lot easier for the Gunners to land their targets.
BONUSES FOR ARSENAL PLAYERS
As per Adrian Kajumba, a one-off bonus would be due to the squad for finishing in the top four. Some of the players are in line to receive as much as £500k as one huge lump sum bonus. The amount each player receives is to be calculated on a pro-rata basis.
Qualification to the Champions League is worth at least £50 million in broadcasting revenue and prize money. And a large percentage of that will be paid to the Arsenal players whose efforts help bring and end to a five-year absence from the competition.
If the current group of players can once again propel the club to the upper echelon of European football then the bonuses will be well worth it. Only time will tell whether Saka and co. can change Arsenal’s fortunes next season.
