Arsenal star Saka names Busquets as the toughest opponent

Sergio Busquets

Arsenal star Bukayo Saka has revealed that Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets is the toughest opponent he has faced so far in his career.

The north London club travelled to encounter the Catalan giants back in 2019 in a pre-season friendly in the Joan Gamper trophy. The Englishman was only 17-year-old back then and made his senior debut in the previous campaign.

Speaking with GQ Magazine, the winger named: “Sergio Busquets. The way he just so elegantly turned me! I came at him to press him, I tried to fake this side then go to the other, and the way he just embarrassed me: I was just like, yeah, this guy is elite.

The way he just took me out of the play, I said, ‘Respect.’ [Busquets] is three steps ahead of everyone, and that’s what makes you a top footballer. That’s what I realised that day.”

During the same interview, the youngster also revealed which goal he would want to score by himself and he said:

“Because of the moment, I think I would say Leo Messi’s goal in the Copa del Rey final against Athletic Club. The one where he dribbled everyone. Now that I play, I can see how hard it is to score that goal.

“People are trying to kick him, to bring him down in the process, and he just keeps going, and he still scored in the final, as well. I was just like, wow. When he says he’s going past you, you’re not stopping him!”

Can Saka help Arsenal to finish in the top four spot?

After a disappointing start to the season, Arsenal bounced back brilliantly and almost put themselves as a favourite to secure a place in the Champions League next season.

However, after back-to-back defeats in the recent games, the north London club are now the second favourites to finish in the top four spot just behind the arch-rival Tottenham Hotspur.

Therefore, it will be interesting to see how the Gunners will end their season. Finishing in the top four spot will be an astonishing achievement for the young Arsenal team and the young manager Mikel Arteta.
