With the 2021-22 season nearing a conclusion and the summer transfer window near the horizon, Arsenal have rejuvenated their interest in Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo.
Arsenal were scouting Arthur over the January transfer window. There were reports that the clubs were in discussion over a potential loan deal. But the deal could not go over the line. The Arsenal faithful must be looking back in time and hoping that the deal was completed. With the injury to Thomas Partey, Mohamed Elneny has started in the middle of the park.
While Mohamed Elneny has come into the side and done quite decently. But Arsenal have looked short in midfield and have thrown away their chance of a top-four finish at the end of the season. The 2-0 loss against Newcastle United meant that the club are two points off rivals Tottenham Spurs. While they still have an outsider’s chance if Spurs lose on the final day of the season. But the chances seem next to none as Spurs face Norwich.
The Gunner’s summer plans have not taken a hit despite the club missing out on Champions League football. ‘Heavy investment’ is on the cards in the summer in the hope of pushing the team to the next level. Arsenal technical director Edu has already revealed the club’s plan to target one of two top players to strengthen the side ahead of next season. The club are scouting Gabriel Jesus, Youri Tielemans, and Aaron Hickey.
Why Arsenal should set their sights away from Arthur Melo?
The club were keen on a loan deal in the January transfer window. But reports now suggest that Juventus are keen on a swap deal involving Gabriel Magalhaes and Arthur Melo. Gabriel has become a real leader at the back of Arsenal this term. While Arthur has struggled for a game-time yet again. Arthur has made 31 appearances in all competitions this term, most of which have come off the bench. (stats via Transfermarkt)
With the likes of Youri Tielemans available on the transfer market, Arsenal should stay away from Arthur. While Arthur has struggled to impress in the Italian league. Youri Tielemans would come into the side with plenty of Premier League experience and quality. Tielemans has been involved in seven goals and five assists in all competitions this term. Compared to just the one assist from Arthur.
