Arsenal is reportedly eyeing a move for Barcelona midfielder Phillipe Coutinho as per the report in Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo.
The 29-year-old joined the Blaugrana back in 2018 for a fee of around £127.6 million from Liverpool. However, the move hasn’t been a great success for the Brazilian magician as he failed to showcase his talent in Camp Nou.
Meanwhile, the midfielder spent the 2019 season on loan at Bayern Munich where he won the Bundesliga title and the Champions League. Coutinho is currently on loan at Aston Villa, scoring four goals and notching up three assists in 10 Premier League appearances.
After showcasing glimpses of his old self at the Villa Park, interests are starting to gather for the Barcelona flop. Arsenal is one of the clubs who have entered the race to sign the 29-year-old alongside the fellow English club Aston Villa.
According to the report the north London club has already made contact with the player’s representatives. The report further claims that Mikel Arteta’s side could be a lucrative destination for the midfielder. If they can qualify for the Champions League next season which the Birmingham club will not be able to offer.
Should Arsenal sign Phillipe Coutinho in the summer?
Arsenal has started to revolutionize the club with young and talented players this season under the guidance of Mikel Arteta. This way has proven to be the right for the north Londoners. Given they are the favorite to finish in the top four spots this term which wasn’t foreseen at the start of the season.
However, signing Coutinho will be a contrast to their recent approach. The club made the same mistakes time and time again in the past by signing older players with huge salary packages. But, that ended up being an awful decision.
So, Mikel Arteta’s side should not make the same mistake and they should learn from their previous experience. Meanwhile, they already have enough firepower in their attacking midfield position. They need to sign a striker and a midfielder in the summer.
