Arsenal lower interest in Youri Tielemans

Arsenal drop their interest in Youri Tielemans. The Belgium international is only under contract at the King Power Stadium for another year. However, Tielemans might leave this summer. Arsenal identified Teilemans to improve their midfield. This is because of his contract situation raises the prospect of a low-cost deal.

The Gunners have reportedly been optimistic about their chances of completing a deal. However, they have yet to make an official offer to Leicester as negotiations continue. Sky Sports News reporter Rob Dorsett claims that Arsenal have backed down in their pursuit of the 25-year-old. This means that Teilemans may now stay at Leicester.

Dorsett adds that Tielemans could now choose to sign a one-year contract extension with Leicester. This means keeping him on the books until the summer of 2024. There are good relations between Leicester and Tielemans.

Arsenal losing out on Tielemans

Tielemans joined Leicester for £40.5 million in 2019 after impressing during a six-month loan spell. He has gone on to score 24 goals and assist 24 times in 158 games for Brendan Rodgers’ side. The former Monaco man scored the game-winning goal against Chelsea in the 2020-21 FA Cup final. Furthermore, he also won the Community Shield with Leicester City a few months later. Tielemans finished the 2021-22 season with seven goals and five assists. This was from 49 continental and domestic matches, but Leicester finished eighth in the Premier League.

As a result, Fabio Vieira, whose impending move to the Emirates was confirmed by Porto on Friday morning. This could be Arsenal’s only midfield acquisition this summer. The Gunners will pay an initial fee of €35 million (£29.9 million) for the 22-year-old. This would could rise to €40 million (£34.2 million) with add-ons. Thus, he has signed a five-year contract in North London. Vieira completed his medical on Friday afternoon and will most likely be announced as an Arsenal player. He is the club’s second signing of the summer after Marquinhos.

Arsenal are still working on a deal to sign Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus. However, Eddie Nketiah’s new five-year contract is expected to be finalised soon. Also, the return of William Saliba from Marseille Arsenal are said to be interested in signing Ajax’s Lisandro Martinez.
