Arsenal are looking to snap up the signature of Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic. The Gunners are reportedly looking to go in for the Serbian with an increased offer.
According to a new report from Sport Mediaset, Arsenal will increase their bid to €80m, to sign Vlahovic. The club believes that the offer will be acceptable for Fiorentina and that a deal can be made in the winter transfer window.
However, things will not be straightforward for Arsenal. The club will face intense competition from the likes of Manchester City, Juventus and Tottenham Hotspur who all are monitoring Vlahovic.
INCREDIBLE SERBIAN
Dusan Vlahovic has hit ridiculous form this calendar year, after failing to impress in his first two seasons with Fiorentina. He ended last season in Serie A with 21 goals in 37 appearances. This season, he has hit new heights, by scoring 15 goals already from his 17 appearances in Serie A. (all stats taken from Transfermarkt)
This impressive performance has made everyone pay attention to the 21-year-old. Vlahovic currently has 32 goals to his name from just 41 Serie A appearances in the year 2021. With still more games to be played, he can easily add more to this number.
Fiorentina has been trying to keep hold of their asset, who has been vital for the team’s performance. The club will see their contract with Vlahovic coming to an end in the summer of 2023. While the club has been trying desperately to renew the contract, the player is not ready to sign a new agreement.
With Vlahovic looking for a move, Fiorentina are now ready to cash in on him. The club is willing to sell the player if the right offer comes in the winter window. The Italians also know that selling him in January is more profitable for them compared to waiting till the end of the season. Reports suggest that Fiorentina will not sell Vlahovic for anything less than €70m.
VLAHOVIC THE PRIME TARGET FOR ARSENAL
Arsenal has been slowly rebuilding under manager Mikel Arteta. Recruitments have been made to strengthen the defence and midfield, but the Gunners clearly needs freshness upfront.
Current club captain Pierre Emerick Aubameyang has been disappointing ever since signing his new contract with the club. The other centre-forward option is Alexander Lacazzete, who does not seem to have the confidence of the manager. Lacazzette will also see his contract end in 2022, meaning the club will be left with even fewer options in the number 9 role.
This is a key reason why Arsenal have been monitoring the market for a new centre-forward. The performance of the Vlahovic in the last year has made him their prime target. At 21-yea-old the Serbian fits the profile of the player that Arteta is targeting. Also, his contract situation with Fiorentina means that he could be available in January.
Arsenal was reported to have approached earlier for Vlahovic, only for them to be rejected. With the new and improved bid of €80m, the Gunners will be hoping to complete the signature.
However, there is still concern about the player, who knows his stoke is on the rise. With the likes of Manchester City showing interest, Vlahovic could look to wait to see his options. Arsenal are not regular contenders for the title at the moment and are also not present in the European competition. This could ultimately be the difference in their pursuit of the Serbian.
