Arsenal loaned out Nuno Tavares to Marseille earlier last week on a season-long loan deal as he made his debut at the club.
Tavares joined Marseille on a season-long loan deal after the arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City this summer. This pushed Gunners’ boss Mikel Arteta to facilitate the exit of Tavares in the summer transfer window.
Tavares made his first appearance on the pitch for the French club joining in the second half of the pre-season match. The player had a sensational debut as per the fans and that has given hope to the club.
Arsenal loanee makes debut
Tavares struggled to cement his spot as a regular during his debut with Arsenal in the Emirates. Moreover, the defender was made to sit on the sidelines as others were preferred over him on numerous occasions.
Granit Xhaka dropped back as defender and was the go-to man for Arteta which made Tavares slip down the order. This eventually saw the defender lose a lot of game time as a result of which he was loaned out.
Arsenal confirmed the move to Marseille by saying-
“Nuno Tavares has joined Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille on a season-long loan deal.
Everyone at Arsenal wishes Nuno all the best this coming season with Marseille.”
The player had a decent start to his debut with the Ligue 1 outfit in the pre-season match against Milan. However, the club had to bow down before the champions of Italy, losing 2-0 to the Rossoneri in the match.
That said, the impressive performance made by Tavares has given a glimpse of what the player is capable of. Moreover, even the defender hopes to cement his spot as a regular before he gets back with Arsenal next season.
