Arsenal has completed the signing of Aaron Ramsdale from Sheffield United for a fee of 30 million Pounds. According to Fabrizio Romano, the player has signed on a 5 year deal with the club. The two have been having ongoing discussions since the start of the transfer window. It has been reported that Aaron himself requested Sheffield United to allow the Transfer to take place.
Aaron Ramsdale is currently 23 years old and plays in the goalkeeper position. Currently, Aaron Ramsdale is valued at £10.80m according to TransferMarkt. In the eyes of many, this transfer is quite overpriced for a player of his stature. There is a reason that Arsenal had to play such a heaty price for Aaron Ramsdale. Firstly the player was called up to the Euros this season, thus showing that there is a high chance of him being the main goalkeeper. Due to this, there is a chance of a higher resale value on him. Secondly, he is an England Capped player. Within the Premier League, there is a “hidden English tax” on English players. Due to this many English national team players have an additional £5-10 m additional value on the player’s sale.
Finally, Aaron Ramsdale signed for Sheffield United last season for a fee of €20.5M. During last season Dean Henderson left the club after completing his loan at the club. Previously Aaron Ramsdale had signed on a 5-year deal and right now he has 4 years left. Due to this, Sheffield United wasn’t under any pressure to sell the play until given the desired amount.
How does Aaron Ramsdale fit the Arsenal Squad and their Future plans?
This season Arsenal has completed 5 signings. It’s quite amusing to notice each player is under the age of 24. Aaron Ramsdale while being 23 has previous premier league experience as well as playing in Sheffield United last season. Last season the player had a shot saving percentage of 70%. He has a post-shot expected goal of 61.9. The higher the stat the more likely the player is to save a shot. During the 20-21 season, Aaron Ramsdale ranked the 5th highest in this stat in the top 5 leagues.
With Leno turning 30 and having just 2 years left on his contract, it seems Arsenal is already getting prepped for the player’s replacement if he wishes to leave next season. Even with all the signing made by the club, it seems the club is quite the transitional period and trying to do their best to prep themselves for the future.
