Arsenal face injury blow as player set to miss Premier League opener

Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith Rowe will miss the Premier League opening match against Crystal Palace after enduring an injury.

The 22-year-old has faced issues with his fitness during the pre-season and missed the Emirates Cup due to a groin injury. Now, the player is set to miss the season opener at Selhurst Park against Crystal Palace on Friday.

As the season is set to kick off, the Gooners will hope that Smith Rowe quickly recovers from the blow. Unable to make regular appearances in pre-season and down with an injury, he could be back in the first-team training next week.

Arsenal midfielder ruled out for the match against Crystal Palace

Smith Rowe last made his appearance on the pitch on July 8 in Germany against FC Nurnberg in the pre-season. Since then, he has been on the sidelines recovering from the injury and is ruled out for the first match.

The midfielder is hoping to make his comeback very soon against Leicester City next week at Emirates Stadium. He spoke with Standard Sport and cleared the air regarding his appearance for the first match.

He said-

“I am getting there,”

“We are going to see what happens. I am going to be training this week, so hopefully I can be back with the team.

“It’s just my groin at the moment, I am getting a bit of pain in there. It’s getting better and I should be back soon.”

Arsenal still have a lot to do but enjoyed a fairly decent time in the transfer window this summer. Along with Smith Rowe, Kieran Tierney is also expected to miss the opener at Selhurst Park due to injury.

Oleksandr Zinchenko could be the one at the left-back for the first match on Friday. Both the injured lads are hoping to recover soon and give as much on the pitch for the club as possible.
