Arsenal centre-backs have a significant role in squad as per pundit

Ally McCoist is now turning attention to two Arsenal players who might be more crucial than Bukayo Saka. That is despite Saka’s recent spotlight due to Rio Ferdinand’s remarks on his world-class status. Saka has indeed been in outstanding form under Mikel Arteta.

The England international has amassed 13 goals in 25 league games this season, nearing last season’s tally of 14 goals with several games left. Saka’s remarkable performance rate positions him as a pivotal figure in Arsenal’s pursuit of success and silverware this season.

Speaking on talkSPORT this morning, Ally McCoist suggested that Arsenal might have two squad members who have silently become more essential than Saka. McCoist, in conversation with Jeff Stelling, acknowledged the significance of Arteta’s attackers. But also hinted at the previous season’s impact on Arsenal’s title aspirations.

With only a few games remaining, William Saliba’s injury derailed any hopes of surpassing City for the league title.

What did McCoist say about the Arsenal defenders?

McCoist stressed that Arsenal couldn’t afford to miss out either on Saliba or Gabriel Magalhaes due to injury concerns. He stated: “It’s a funny one, I hear what you’re saying about Odegaard and Saka and boys like that. I actually think with Arsenal, you don’t want to lose one of the centre-backs again.”

McCoist’s perspective holds weight, although Saka likely remains Arsenal’s most pivotal player. Nonetheless, losing either Saliba or Gabriel would significantly unsettle Arsenal. Strengthening in that area may still be a priority for Mikel Arteta in the upcoming summer transfer window.
