Arsenal is closing in to sign Arthur Melo from Juventus on an 18 month loan period.
According to TuttoMercatoWeb, both clubs will hold talks again for the loan. The report also states that The Gunners will cover his wages for Melo.
Juventus on the other hand prefers an 18-month loan with an obligation to buy.
Mikel Arteta is already looking for midfielders because of a lack of options and a poor run of games as well.
Does Arthur Melo need a transfer move to Arsenal?
Barcelona made a really bad decision agreeing to sell Melo in exchange for Pjanic. Initially, the Catalans paid £72 million for Arthur. The Brazilian had struggled as well with injuries hindering his progress.
Even at Juventus, he is struggling to get in the starting XI. Arthur has only made 8 starts since recovering from a shin injury in September.
The player is also looking forward to leaving Juventus and Arsenal seems to be a good fit for Arthur.
Arthur is a defensive midfielder and can play both sides of the midfield. He has great spatial awareness and control of the ball as well. This along with his exceptional composure helps him to retain the ball under pressure. Many even compared him with Xavi and Iniesta.
Melo also had a high passing percentage but unfortunately, most of them were side passes or back passes. The Brazilian possesses the technical ability to make beautiful diagonals, switch of play with his passing ability as well. However, he does not take much risk which decreases his attacking threat.
Arsenal can profit from this transfer but only if Arteta uses him in the right position. It would be useless to play him in a double pivot since he would struggle defensively. If Arthur is played up front it would be great for the Gunners since that is his main strength.
