Should Arsenal renew Alexandre Lacazette’s contract?

About Football Express UK

Arsenal striker Lacazette is 30 years old and this is his last year at the Emirates. With the return of Arsenal star Aubameyang, Lacazette has not started the last three league games.

The Gooners have had poor management over the years. They chose to keep experienced but old players on high salaries and lengthy deals.

This happened with Ozil, Mustafi and Sokratis, the board do not want that with Lacazette. Even if Lacazette is given a long term contract, he cannot compete with Aubameyang.

Arsenal is willing to offer him a short term contract but nothing more than that.

It is not only a financial issue but if Lacazette will stay then the youngsters at Arsenal will not play/develop. Great talented prospects like Balogun and Gabriel Martinelli will not get a chance.

The Sun states that the management prioritises the youngsters’ development and fears a domino effect.

The Gooners have already started looking for replacements. Lacazette is not as good as Aubameyang but he is reputed as well. West Ham, Juventus, Newcastle are all rumoured to contend for the French striker.

If Arsenal will go through with the sale, they will not have much problem splashing money for a replacement. According to the Sun, The Gooners are preparing to sign Calvert Lewin and Ollie Watkins.

Is Lacazette often under the shadow of Arsenal star Aubameyang?

Alexandre Lacazette joined Arsenal in 2017. After a year Arsenal signed Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund. In his first season, he scored 22 goals and had 4 assists in 36 games.

In his second season, Aubameyang again produced tremendous goal-scoring numbers. Auba again scored 22 goals and had 3 assists in 37 games. (Source: Transfermarkt)

In their past, The Gooners have had legendary players. Whilst Lacazette is not at that level, he is a good player. The performances which he has displayed at The Emirates are great considering how much Arsenal was struggling.

It is now that they have seemed to pick up the pace. Whether The Gooners will continue their form without Lacazette is a question to ponder.
